Marseille Five-Card Draw–9/30/12

 

Drew these cards yesterday morning (Sept. 30) for this week. It’s going to be a week of making an important choice, which I do have in the back of my mind (a financial adjustment that involves some risk). So, this one makes sense already. We have Three of Cups-Two of Coins-Lovers-Temperance-Fool.

The key card is the Lovers, which can be about love relationships, but mostly about choice. In the Marseille trumps, the Lovers comes after several characters (High Priestess, Empress, Emperor and Hierophant) are developed to set the feminine and masculine energies, the inner and outer manifestations of Spirit. So, now we seem to be in a space of choosing. Although the figures here can be ambiguous (is the one on the left male or female?), it looks like desire trumps all these previous elements and Cupid basically rules since he’s about to hit the guy in the middle with the arrow. Some interpretations say this is good because he’s looking at the “lady” who is symbolized as Virtue, so he’ll fall in love with her when the arrow hits. But the lady on the right, who seems to represent lustful desire, has her hand over his heart. Difficult choices but one can be “hit” with an inspiration at any moment.

In my case, though, we need to take this idea of choice and apply it to the cards surrounding, which are not necessarily about a simple romantic choice. Prospects are good for making money decisions since Temperance and the Two of Coins are working together. I should be able to balance the right proportions in my mind to weigh the pros and cons of my financial decision. The Three of Cups and Two of Coins together tell me that making this choice will also involve planning for my optimum happiness by solving this problem.

And then, there’s the Fool (= Cupid?). What does he bring to the equation? Everything seems pretty sensible except for him. He seems to be saying that I shouldn’t discount an out-of-the-box solution, since Temperance means I should be able to pull it off. I need to be bold, yet balanced and methodical in figuring this out.
