So, after a certain hiatus in regular writing due to remodeling my house to sell and getting ready to move, I am back to answering some lovely tarot questions originally posed on Tumblr over a year ago.
This week’s is “What question do you most often ask the deck (or, ask on behalf of another)?”
It has been very interesting to watch both my own settling in as a Tarot reader for others and how I incorporate it into my own daily rituals.
For me, I often forget to ask the Tarot specific questions, and find that other readers can do a better job of answering my larger scale questions than I can. I think we are all a bit muddled when it comes to understanding the energies flowing or blocking up our own lives.
I do have a nice habit of doing daily draws of both Tarot and Lenormand cards. I like to use the Lenormand to scope out my surroundings and see what sorts of mundane things might come my way (go out in the garden (Garden and Rider), get something in the mailbox (Bouquet and Letter), a good day to call a friend (Dog and Birds), might want to beware of contentious conversations with family (Man and Whip/Broom). I draw three cards daily for Tarot with the idea of getting help on what to focus on, since my to-do list tends to get rather long. It also lets me know when my accounts receivable may turn into cash received. Tarot’s been pretty good about letting me know about that one!
For other folks, the questions have turned out much more mundane (not that they lack importance, but as compared to more psychological or inner-self questions) than I expected when I started reading for others last year. Most of them are about relationships, actually. Some about career things, but mostly about whether an intimate relationship will work out or not. People seem to agonize over the whole mating game. As an older person in a stable relationship, sometimes it’s hard to remember all the trauma and drama, the uncertainties of relationships for younger folks. But I get reminded regularly with the readings I do now.
I focus on personal empowerment and the development of personal magnetism to create a good space for quality relationship to occur. Desperation rarely gets you where you want to go from my experience. It’s extremely satisfying to help folks get focused on what’s important for them relationship-wise and give them some tarot clues on the best path to take.
This Week’s Picks
You can’t go wrong with Karen Sealey, of the Pure and Blessed Way. You know you are in a fun place when the subtitle of the site is “One fluffy bunny’s adventure in a strange new land…” Karen’s hippy-dippy sense of humor and great insights into Tarot and life in general make for some hilarious and very insightful stories.
Also, James Wells, over at Circle Ways, has a great little post this week on who selects the deck for a reading. I’d be interested to know your practice if you are a reader. 🙂

It’s not just the young who agonise over relationships – I’ve had plenty of older folk doing that, too. And interestingly, when I worked a tarot hotline quite a lot of older gents rang in for relationship readings. Their questions tended to be more “when will I meet someone” than “when will he call me”, but otherwise… 🙂
Also, managed to miss the cut-off for comments on your Litha post, but very much enjoyed it 🙂
