I was going over some blog posts from other wonderful folks that I’d been saving in my reading list, and came upon a lovely post from Joy Vernon’s Completely Joyous blog on how she sets up the environment for her face-to-face readings. I now realize why I saved it, too. She has a lovely cloth, candles, sprays of positive, clearing scents (for especially when candles are not allowed) and a number of other tips on making a public reading space one’s own little Tarot sanctuary.
Someday…;) I’m waiting until I’ve moved out to the western part of the USA here hopefully in a month or so (depends on how long it takes the house to sell) to get integrated into a smaller community than Houston, thank you, and look for opportunities at fairs and other events.
I have a nice little cloth that my daughter gave me for Christmas (see pic), and I love candles, so that part is all set. I feel the need to learn more about healing properties of stones and the essential oils that Joy wrote about to round out my environment. FYI, the decks I was using regularly when this picture was taken are, from top left clockwise, Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s Shadowscapes, Ciro Marchetti‘s Gilded Tarot Royale, Beauty/History/Magic’s Le Tarot des Femmes Erotique, Marchetti’s Gilded Reverie Lenormand, and his Legacy of the Divine Tarot (yes, a Marchetti deck fan, indeed!).
Ah, the coaster (gray slate) in my picture did remind me of one thing I don’t think Joy mentioned in her setup; a spot for water/coffee/tea. And does one offer refreshment to the querent as part of the reading, I wonder?
I’d love to see pics of your setups for public face-to-face readings or home-based ones and what the most important elements are for you in setting the scene for a good reading.
