The original inspiration for this article, Kiss Bloglárka, challenged us with a foodie theme. Very appropriate for this harvest time of year. I saw that the Starbucks spiced latté is out, so it must be fall, right? And American Thanksgiving is only a couple of months away!
In the original spirit of gathering to enjoy the abundance of this season (especially important in olden times when the harvest was a matter of survival), I’m going to focus on the Three of Cups to celebrate the harvest. First thing that came into my head was this joyful card with friends celebrating together. Yes, I know they are toasting their friendship with mead, probably, but there are fruits of the harvest at their feet. Next thing after the toast might be some dancing and then off to enjoy the feast.
Thanks to my hubby, these lovely ladies now have names: Meg, Ginger, and Cindy. Since this is a foodie blog hop, you can start guessing…
In that spirit of three, the number for completed creation (birth of children, ideas, creative projects, entire worlds), my hubby suggested inspiring you with three spices to use in a recipe of your choice in the next month. You’ve likely already guessed them: Nutmeg, Ginger, and Cinnamon. Great for the usual pumpkin pie, but take this opportunity to look up the spices themselves (see the Wikipedia links for each above) and think about other ways to use them. In our house, hubby is the master chef, and he’s been using ginger in particular in vanilla cake (I’m afraid the recipe is in his head and changes regularly, or I’d write it up for you here; he’s a very improvisational cook).
There is symbolic room for using these three spices in a Tarot spread, though. Try this out.
The Spices Spread for Fall
Let’s get spicy! Use these positions to add some sweet and spicy stuff to your life.
- Ginger: What’s the root of my spicy creativity? If it’s a bit hot and uncomfortable, dig it up anyway and employ the energy from the card mixed with the others.
- Nutmeg: How can I add more sweetness to my life right now? Take advantage of the nut-based sweetness of this spice’s energy to grow something fun.
- Cinnamon: Where can I go to reveal and share the savory energy hidden under my skin? Cinnamon is found under the bark of a tree. Look around you in your world for opportunities to peel back your reservations and express your own spicy creativity. Cinnamon is also savory and sweet at the same time. Find a place to mix these energies together and celebrate the spiciness of you!

You know that forever more everyone will call those ladies by those names. You have a clever husband! The spread looks fun too.

🙂 Love the names of the ladies! Could you please somehow get the vanilla-ginger cake recipe out of his head? I would like to give it a try, too. 😛 Such a great article, thank you for sharing, Joanne!

I don’t think I can undo seeing these three as Meg, Ginger and Cindy from now on…..

Great spread. I’m going to try it sometime. The ladies’ names will stick in my head forever, Joanne.

Oh dear! I didn’t necessarily mean to make the names stick in everyones’ heads forever, but it does work nicely! And I won’t forget about the ginger vanilla cake, but hubby is reluctant to pin down his recipes. When we get settled into a house (hopefully by Samhain), he’ll write it down…

Oooh, liking this idea for a spread very much! Funny you mention pumpkin pie…I’ve been thinking about that (Canadian thanksgiving coming up soon) and those spices in particular….
