Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! And Happy Easter/Ostara! Also, it’s April Fool’s Day, but no Fool in our draw, so I will give you the straight message on this set of cards. 🙂
I’m using Kat Black’s Golden Tarot deck this week. I find Kat’s medieval collages endlessly fascinating. Also, it is Easter, so I thought her medieval Christian imagery would be cool for the day. Jesus is in the spread, actually. Can you guess where?
Since there is no specific question or area of concern for these readings, my interpretation will be very general in nature, based on my sense of what the Tarot itself is addressing and the general energy potentials for the week.
We have a plethora of Cups cards this week, so look for a focus on feelings.
Let’s do a chronological look first, and then we’ll use some mirrored pairs to round out the message.
The Timeline View
We begin this week with some regrets, perhaps (Five of Cups). A monk is trying to comfort the Pope in this image. He has a couple of regrets (two tipped-over cups), but still some things to be thankful for (three full and upright cups). I note that unlike the RWS deck’s Five of Cups, this one has three upright, so…bonus! Things are not as bad as they might seem. And there next to this card is emotional support from the great empathizer, the Queen of Cups. In this case, she is portrayed by the medieval philosopher, Saint Catherine of Siena. Just a peek at the Wikipedia post was fascinating. I had no idea…. So, this Queen of Cups is not only here for emotional support, but to help you clarify your feelings and relationship to Higher Self/God/Spirit for the rest of the week.
At midweek, it’s time to hangout and enjoy Spring (or whatever signs you can find or create of it if you are in the cold North). It’s the Empress, and she looks very comfy with children and bunnies—great symbolism for this season of rebirth. The original painting that included the Madonna and musical prodigy Jesus is from The Virgin in a Paradise Garden by a painter from the fifteenth-century German Cologne school (the bunnies are from another Italian painting). Do take time out this week to enjoy nature (whether snow-covered or green), family, and just taking a break from whatever grind you may be involved in.
Moving toward the end of the week, you have the chance to leave whatever regrets or relationship issues that may have caused sadness earlier in the week (Eight of Cups). It’s time to move on to a more balanced sense of being (Justice). The Archangel (no name given in the source) here is ready to make a decision, and so should you feel a sense of completing a cycle and regaining your inner balance.
The Mirrored Tarot Pairs
The focal point for this view of your cards is the sensual and creative power of the Empress/Madonna. I just get this sense of her at rest here, enjoying the season, the abundance she has already created, the divine energy of her son. She wants you to remember to take a break this week and look around you, listen around you, smell, taste, and touch around you to feel the love.
Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. The Five of Cups is a place of emotional unsettledness—disruptive change (the 5), and Justice is here to restore the balance so you can enjoy your Empress week. Change may be unpleasant, but it always leads to something else better if we let it.
The inner cards show you the power of the great Queen of Cups. Her support for your sadness and good advice (look around for that support in your life this week) will allow you to walk away from whatever negative feelings you had (Eight of Cups), so you can begin again.
Happy Spring, folks, and enjoy your Empress vibe this week!
