Q: For what purposes do you usually use the Tarot (self-reflection, guidance, advice, recreation, communing with spirits/dead, communication with deity, other)?
Many of the above. Not a medium, so I don’t contact spirits who’ve passed on, and not for recreation per se, since I do believe the cards and reader together tap into universal energies. Not a specific deity, since I believe all deities are human attempts to explain the All That Is, which is us and everything and is ultimately energy moving about in the fabric of space-time, connecting to other fabrics of space-time in multiple dimensions (think Star Trek stuff).
Self-reflection, yes. Guidance, yes, for awareness of what may manifest around me so I can change it, if necessary (not wanting to change the check that arrives early, or the lovely call from my child out of the blue, etc.). Advice, yes, but I’ll not be a slave to it. As my Tarot colleague, Theresa Reed (The Tarot Lady) says: “The cards tell a story, but you write the ending.” Wish I could steal that one, but Theresa’s made excellent use of it as her motto. 🙂
The Tarot is most useful to me in helping me focus on what’s most important. I get distracted easily by all the stuff on my to-do list, and the cards can tap into my subconscious and the collective consciousness to see what’s really worth doing on any given day. They can even give a perspective on current events (again the collective consciousness), or let me know about the emotional energies of people around me so I can remember to respond most appropriately. So, everything from deep self-reflection to practical, day-to-day advice.
The Tarot often tells me what I already know but am not currently aware of. Am I making it all up? You betcha! But “it” is everything in my perceived reality, so that makes it valuable as an additional form of insight. Since we, the dirt, the sky, the stars, are all connected at the quantum level and made of the same “stuff,” I can use the Tarot to tap into all of that. Profound, but simple. I like that.
So, agree, disagree about the nature of the universe and how Tarot operates? Let me know what you think, and how you use the cards, if you do, to help you navigate life.

I found the questions for this series at a Tumblr account that no longer exists. A lovely person named Rhee started the thing. These are great prompts for telling stories about one’s journey through the world of Tarot, so I’ve started the series again on a weekly basis so you all can get to know me better, and also share your own answers to the questions in comments or links to your own posts. I’d love to hear from you!
