Q: What question do you most often ask the deck (or, ask on behalf of another)?
There’s a big difference between the most common question I ask for myself and the question most asked by others.
Questions by Others
Most people ask questions about relationships with their significant others or desires to find a significant other. Also about how to deal with the emotional fallout from a relationship ending, whether the querent was the initiator of the ending or not.
My reading ethics do not allow for querying the “ether” on how the querent’s partner will respond or why he/she left, etc. I’m actually not a mind reader and it’s not appropriate to invade a person’s energetic space without their permission.
So, these readings tend to turn into informal psychological support since I ask the cards to focus on the querent’s emotional situation and how best to deal with the circumstances at hand. Most querents with relationship issues are having trouble loving themselves first so they can attract the best partner or are trying to find a loving way to leave a relationship. Using the symbolism on the cards, we can often get clarity on what’s needed to improve the querent’s situation.
Questions for Self
“What should I focus on now?” That’s my main question. I get distracted easily, particularly by social activities and conversations, so staying on task is a challenge. Sometimes I need to channel my inner Queen of Swords to get things done. Today, though, the Dreams of Gaia Tarot reminded me to focus on avoiding competitive thinking (5 of Fire), letting go of perfection (4 of Water), and from my Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck (the Raccoon), starting something new (just what I need, another thing on the list!). I think the Raccoon meant that I should pursue new things that are already on my list to do with soul guide work I’m developing.
I don’t think asking myself questions about relationships and other life issues is very useful, since there will always be a subconscious bias in my interpretations. If I have a pressing question, I’ll go to another reader to get a more objective view.
If you are a fellow reader, I’d love to know what kinds of questions you get from others and if/how you read for yourself. I will also be asking this question over at my new MeWe group, The Cartomancer’s Salon if you’d like to join the discussion.
I found the questions for this series at a Tumblr account that no longer exists. A lovely person named Rhee started the thing. These are great prompts for telling stories about one’s journey through the world of Tarot, so I’ve started the series again on a weekly basis so you all can get to know me better, and also share your own answers to the questions in comments or links to your own posts. I’d love to hear from you!
