I’d like to show you a mirroring technique I learned from the Lenormand system that you can apply to Tarot (or any other card divination system). I have found it really useful in getting a deeper idea of the energies for a week and how to handle them.
Let’s do a chronological look first so you can then see the comparison to the mirror technique, and then I’ll mirror the pairs to provide more information.
The Timeline View
We begin the week with some creative action or learning with the Princess of Wands (about the only issue I have with this hauntingly beautiful deck is the font choice for the labels—often difficult to read). She’s got bright flames of inspiration for new ideas, and may have a message for you today or tomorrow; pay attention! Your Hermit wisdom could use this addition to spend time alone in the creative process.
Midweek, you’ll be shifting gears to deal with obligations you have toward others (10 of Wands), which may seem a significant distraction from that cool new idea from the Princess of Wands.
As you move on toward week’s end, you’ll need to take a closer look at balancing those obligations with your own projects (2 of Swords and Temperance) to make quality progress for the week. Commit to whatever mix of things you need to do to maintain that balance and you will find some peace in your activities.
The Mirrored Tarot Pairs
First, we set the center card as the focus/theme of the draw. So, the obligation bit (10 of Wands) stands out as an oppressive weight on your potential joy in the week.
The remaining mirrored pairs will let us know how to handle this challenge.

Outer Pair
Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation (and maybe help you decide what to work on). We have the Princess of Wands pairing with Temperance. Whew! Very different expressions of energy here. Look at that determined Princess with her Lion power ready to strike! The Temperance angel working her water mixture is saying to slow down with that new idea and find that balance in moderation. The new thing will still get attention, and your own magical self will make sure its fire doesn’t get put out.
Inner Pair
The inner pair are sending a message to the Princess of Wands as well. See how the Hermit faces back to the Princess, with the 2 of Swords supporting him. He sends her commitment to Peace to the Princess to soften her look, not to quench her fire, for he carries his own, but to channel it. Carry your fire, but remember your worldly duties to others. You have the wisdom, and the diplomacy, to work both sides.
So, we could go just with the chronological reading of the cards, but see what we gain from the mirrored pairs, and from relating the visuals of the cards together? It’s a much fuller picture.
I hope you enjoy this extra layer of interpretation. Let me know in the comments how it worked for you.
